Dramatic Looks

Dramatic Looks

While some EV models blend in with their traditional design, Hyundai has taken a different approach with the Kona Electric. With no need for a cooling front grille, the aerodynamic design has been lifted with a curved, solid front that announces the car's differences under the hood for all to see. Additionally, the larger wheel arches and redesigned rear bumper combine to create an aggressive feel that's in keeping with the futuristic tech that the Kona includes in abundance.

Electric Power Under the Hood

All trims of the 2021 Kona Electric feature the same EV powertrain. A single, powerful electric motor drives the front wheels with an output of 201 horsepower and 290lb-ft of torque, with the instant acceleration power that's a strong EV characteristic. Indeed, the 0-100kmh time of just 6.4 seconds is impressive for any mainstream small vehicle, whether electric or traditional.

And while the output figures are impressive, it's the range and charge times which can make or brake any EV. Thankfully, the Kona is an extremely impressive performer with a maximum range of up to 415km, and flexible charging options using domestic, commercial, and DC-fast charging supplies.

Interior and Technology

Interior and Technology

Unlike many EV competitors, there's no lack of space inside the Kona thanks to the large battery pack being tucked away invisibly below the cabin. The front seats boast a spacious 105.4 cm of legroom, although the subcompact design means the rear isn't quite as generous at a tidy 84.8cm.

Infotainment technology is a strong point of the Kona Electric, matching the advanced design under the hood. Every model features a touchscreen of at least 8", rising to 10.3" as you move up the trim levels. Smartphone integration is standard through Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth, while navigation is an optional extra.

The high-tech theme continues into the dash, with a 10.3" digital gauge cluster fitted as standard, customisable to provide essential driving information at a glance.

Safety Tech

Safety Tech

The Kona Electric enjoys the same strong safety systems as its gas sibling, with highlights including forward collision warnings, automated emergency braking, lane departure warnings with keep assist, and more.

2021 Hyundai Kona Electric Pricing

The Essential FWD trim of the Kona Electric tips the scales at just $44,999, while even the Ultimate edition comes in at a miserly $53,149. Advanced EV technology is hard to find for less.
