2021 Hyundai Elantra | Review, Pricing, and Specs
In a world increasingly dominated by SUVs, the Hyundai Elantra offers a refreshing change of pace. The compact sedan was already a popular choice thanks to its distinctive looks, but for the new model year Hyundai have given the lineup a makeover to raise it even higher in the style stakes. The 2021 Hyundai Elantra is now available in Coquitlam, BC, and here are the key highlights of this elegant sedan.
The Elantra may be billed as a compact sedan, but the new redesign takes elements of the fastback and coupe profiles to create a sleekly stunning exterior. The outline is dominated by curves, with the angular sides and hood adding a dramatic effect. If you're looking for a car with genuine character, the Elantra makes a great choice.
Power Under the Hood
There are three powertrain options available for the 2021 Hyundai Elantra. The standard configuration is built around a 2.0L I-4 gas engine making 147 horsepower and 132lb-ft of torque, passed to front-wheel drive through a continuously variable transmission (CVT), providing ample power and zip for daily driving.
New for 2021 is an optional hybrid powertrain, which pairs a 1.6L I-4 gas engine with an electric motor to make 139 horsepower with dramatically lower fuel costs, again powering front-wheel drive but this time with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The final option is a beefy 1.6L turbo engine which puts out an impressive 201 horsepower and 195lb-ft, passed to front-wheel drive through either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The 2021 Elantra sports some impressive fuel economy figures, with the standard powertrain boasting 7.1L / 100km in the city and 5.5L / 100km on the highway. Even the turbo option is a lean performer, achieving a highly creditable 8.4L in the city and 6.5L on the highway. However, as you'd expect, the hybrid powertrain is the star of the show with excellent figures of 4.4L in the city and 4.2L on the highway.
The standard infotainment touchscreen is an 8" model although a 10.3" upgrade is available, backed by an optional 10.3" digital gauge cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the range, along with Wi-Fi connection facilities and voice recognition for controlling the climate control, seat heating, and more.
The Elantra is also generously equipped with safety tech, with standard features including automated emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warnings, and lane keeping assist.
